LTF GROUP HAS INVESTED IN THE PRODUCTION OF HIGH-QUALITY THERMOMODIFIED WOOD.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, the global wood industry has undergone significant changes: raw materials have become more expensive, and product margins have significantly decreased. Changes in the wood market have prompted the Lithuanian company UAB “LTF Group” to implement strategic changes. After producing construction and calibrated wood for many years, the company decided to enter the higher value-added segment and started producing thermally modified wood (TMW).
“We realized that standard products were no longer enough. We needed a solution that would allow us to maintain profitability and offer customers higher-quality, more beautiful, and more durable products,” says Vaidas Puodžiukas, Director of LTF Group.
INVESTING IN ITALIAN TECHNOLOGY: A GUARANTEE OF QUALITY
After analyzing global trends and participating in international trade fairs, the company decided to purchase equipment from the Italian manufacturer BIGonDRY for processing thermally modified wood, one of the most modern and automated solutions in this sector.
“When choosing equipment, we decided to invest in technologies that guarantee durability, consistent quality, and certification. We believe that our products will meet the ThermoWood® quality standard, recognized in markets such as the United States and Scandinavia,” says V. Puodžiukas.
The equipment allows for automatic temperature and humidity control throughout the entire process, thus ensuring products with stable physical characteristics and uniform shades. The company is currently able to produce up to 500 m³ of thermally modified wood per month and plans to further increase its production capacity in the near future
EXPANSION INTO THE US MARKET AND THERMOWOOD® CERTIFICATION
LTF Group aims to become a member of the International ThermoWood Association and has already started the certification process. This step will open the doors to the US market, where it is practically impossible to sell products without the ThermoWood® brand. “US buyers are very demanding in terms of wood origin, quality of workmanship and stability. Therefore, our goal is not only to enter this market, but also to establish ourselves as a reliable supplier offering certified European quality,” emphasizes V. Puodžiukas.
EXOTIC THERMOMODIFIED WOOD: A NICHE BETWEEN ASH AND PINE
Although most global manufacturers produce thermomodified wood from pine, LTF Group is expanding its range by offering thermomodified wood of exotic origin, the price of which lies between that of pine and the more expensive alder. The company imports raw materials from New Zealand (radiata pine) and Africa (fraké, ayous). These types of wood are characterized by a particularly uniform structure, low branching, and an exceptional visual effect. These products are particularly popular in architectural, façade, and interior design projects, where natural materials that maintain a stable shape are sought.
SUSTAINABILITY AND ENERGY INDEPENDENCE
The company has also invested in green energy: a 350 kW solar system fully meets production energy needs on sunny days. The wood heat treatment process is performed without the addition of chemicals, using only steam and heat, making the product eco-friendly, sustainable, and environmentally friendly. Thermally modified wood is increasingly used for decking, facade cladding, and interior design solutions. Thanks to the special heat treatment process, it becomes more resistant to humidity, temperature fluctuations, and biological agents: it does not rot, is not attacked by pests, and retains its shape even in extreme conditions. When installed and maintained properly, thermally modified wood products can last 20 years or more, retaining their natural appearance and technical characteristics.
A SIGN OF MATURITY IN THE WOOD INDUSTRY IN LITHUANIA
LTF Group’s investment symbolizes the maturity of the Lithuanian wood industry: the transition from raw and structural products to complete, certified solutions suitable for architecture and design. “We want the LTF Group name to be associated with a European vision, where value is created not by quantity, but by quality, innovation, and sustainability,” emphasizes V. Puodžiukas.
